COCD  and Ohio University have partnered to launch a Community Health Worker (CHW) Certification Program. This in-person program equips participants to become certified CHWs, vital members of healthcare teams who connect individuals and families to services to improve health outcomes.

The program will involve 100 hours of classroom instruction and 130 hours of fieldwork experience under the guidance of instructor Kerri A. Shaw, MSW, LISW-S, C.CHW. Shaw is the Director of community Health Workforce Programs and an Associate Professor of Instruction at the OHIO Alliance for Public Health at Ohio University.

Shaw joined the OHIO Alliance for Population Health in 2021 as the Community Health Worker Program Lead.  She has been instrumental in developing the CHW training program at Ohio University and has trained hundreds of CHWs in central and southern Ohio since 2017, when the program was launched. Shaw is now a state leader in community health work and a Board Member for the Ohio Center for Community Health Worker Excellence. Prior to joining the Alliance, Shaw was a faculty member in the Ohio University Department of Social Work, including three years as the Field Director.

This certification program is made possible by funding from the former Ohio Center for CHW Excellence, which brings workforce training directly to the Dayton community.

Applicants must have strong English reading and writing skills and must pre-register with placement tests administered in person by COCD.

Graduates of the program will be eligible for employment by major healthcare providers, including Premier Health.

To learn more, contact info@crossovercd.org or visit COCD in person at Christ Lutheran Church, 511 Hart St., Dayton, OH, 45404.  Please see the program flyer for reference and to forward to interested applicants.
