Healthcare Career Bridge

Overview

The COCD Healthcare Career Bridge is a workforce-aligned pathway that integrates healthcare-focused language development, foundational math, and workplace communication to prepare bilingual and internationally trained individuals for entry into high-demand healthcare careers.

The program serves as a Competency-to-Credential Pathway, enabling participants to leverage their healthcare knowledge and experience while preparing for career and certification opportunities. Through focused instruction, they develop essential communication, technical, and professional skills for effective functioning in healthcare settings.

Medical Assistants

Purpose

The Healthcare Career Bridge treats language as healthcare infrastructure, equipping participants with the ability to communicate clearly, follow workplace protocols, document accurately, and interact confidently in fast-paced clinical and community health settings.

The pathway is designed to support participants as they prepare for healthcare training, industry-recognized certifications, and career advancement opportunities in roles such as:

  • Medical Assistant
  • Nutrition Assistant
  • Medical Administrative
  • Assistant
  • Dental Assistant
  • Medical Interpreter
  • Pharmacy Technician


This workforce-centered approach helps bridge language, cultural, and professional barriers while strengthening access to sustainable healthcare career pathways.

Levels and Courses

Level 1

  • HCB 111: Understanding Medical & Pharmaceutical Terminology
  • HCB 112: Interacting with Statistical Information, including Math successfully
  • HCB 113: Communicating about Demographics & the Body completion
  • HCB 114: Basic Workplace Norms
  • Result: Program completers can function safely in a basic healthcare role.
  • CEFR: A1 to A2+

Level 2

  • HCB 211: Using Medical & Pharmaceutical Terminology
  • HCB 212: Appropriate Use of Statistical Information, including Math successful
  • HCB 213: Refining Healthcare Communication with Stakeholders completion
  • HCB 214: Meeting Apprenticeship & Workplace Expectations
  • Result: Program completers can function effectively in various healthcare roles.
  • CEFR: A2+ to B2+

Level 3

  • HCB 311: Interdisciplinarity: Specializations and their Nexuses
  • HCB 312: Accuracy in Comprehending Complex Diagnoses successful
  • HCB 313: Nuanced Communication about Sensitive Topics completion
  •  HCB 314: Professionalism in the Workplace
  • Result: Program completers can advance in healthcare fields and are prepared for standardized tests such as the NCLEX.

Result: Program completers can function safely in entry-level agricultural roles and begin demonstrating foundational competencies aligned with college entry expectations.

CEFR: A1 to A2+

Level 2

Result: Program completers are prepared to transition directly into aligned college agriculture programs (e.g., certificates and degrees offered through partners such as Clark State College) or advance into employment and entrepreneurship without remediation.
